Durmitor National Park tips when travelling on a motorcycle
We recently were travelling to the Durmitor National Park on Yamaha motorcycles. On our way, we stopped by the city of Pluzine. This place has a couple of places where you can have lunch or even breakfast, but the most essential attraction around this area – is Piva Lake. We have already mentioned this lake, so let’s talk about why you should stop at Pluzine.
Piva Lake, located in Montenegro, is a breathtaking reservoir known for its deep emerald-green waters, which contrast beautifully with the towering cliffs of the surrounding Piva Canyon. Formed by the construction of the Mratinje Dam on the Piva River, the lake stretches over 45 kilometers, making it one of the largest and most scenic artificial lakes in the Balkans. Its unique setting, combined with the crystal-clear water, makes it a popular destination for kayaking, fishing, and exploring the rugged landscape, offering a serene yet adventurous escape in the heart of Montenegro’s natural beauty.
The city of Pluzine is located near the southern and not far from the northern gates of the Durmitor National Park. Either way, whether you decide to take a long ride through the Durmitor National Park or just cross it on a motorcycle, this is the last stop where you can refuel and get some snacks. The reason for that – is typically, you might spend several hours or even a day in the park, and during that time, you shouldn’t expect any signs of civilisation there, meaning you won’t be able to get food, drinks or gasoline. That’s why Pluzine will be your best bet for having a proper meal or at least buying and taking something with you.
The next city on your way is Zabljak. In our next article, we highlight what to do in Zabljak and where to stay. If you are looking for a motorcycle rental or private experience, you can always reach out to us to configure your package.
